Alcohol and Weightloss

What role does alcohol play in weight-loss?

Alcohol is known to be high in calories, and so are the mixers that are popular to use in many drinks. They sure can taste like you’re drinking liquid candy and you pretty much are

Calories from alcohol are empty calories, meaning they do not contain any nutrition and won’t help your body meet nutritional needs

Many people typically consume alcoholic drinks as extras, adding to their total daily calorie intake and often go over in calories

Alcohol interferes with the body’s fat-burning mechanisms. Alcohol is metabolized first which means that any excess sugar or ethanol will be stored as fat (typically in the belly).

So does that mean you can’t have any alcohol at all? Of course not. Moderation is essential. Health guidelines consider moderation; 1 drink per day for women and up to 2 drinks per day for men.

Some tips to help along the way Use smaller glasses Alternate your alcoholic bev with water Have a few alcohol free days per week Set a drink limit when you go out beforehand And Stick with it: It takes time to change habits and lose weight.
